Tags

Tags are properties without values. They act as markers that describe characteristics of content, images, campaigns, or user preferences.

Tags are used to:

  • Classify content consistently across different data sources
  • Improve search relevance and filtering
  • Enable personalization (e.g. via saved profile tags)
  • Support image-based and campaign-specific use cases

Tags can be assigned to content objects such as POIs, events, or accommodations.

Types of tags and usage

Common tags

Common tags are harmonized across data sources and maintained by discover.swiss. They are used for long-term classification, search relevance, filtering, personalization, and topic pages.

Image tags

Image tags describe visual properties of images.

They can be: - Assigned automatically (e.g. via image analysis or imports) - Assigned manually by partners

Image tags are mainly used for image-based filtering and classification and are not intended to be shown to end users.

Campaign tags

Campaign tags are created for specific campaigns and are always owned by a single partner.

They are typically used to: - Group a specific set of objects - Support marketing promotions or temporary initiatives - Enable partner-specific filtering or analytics

Campaign tags are partner-scoped and not available for other partners.

Profile tags

Profile tags are assigned to regular content objects (e.g. POIs) to add personalization-specific context. They are used to mark content for a specific persona or to support personalization logic, such as boosting or filtering results for a target audience.

Tag groups & classification (additionalType)

Tags are grouped using the additionalType property. Tag groups define the semantic purpose of a tag and how it is used within the system.

The following additional types are used:

  • content – common content-related tags
  • image – image-related tags
  • campaign – partner-owned campaign tags
  • profile – personalization and ranking tags

The tag tree structure, including translated group names, is available via the Infocenter endpoint: /types/tree

Tag icons

A tag can have an icon defined via the iconUrl property. Icons can be used to visually represent tags in the user interface.

Currently, only accessibility-related tags have icons assigned (SITIOS accessibility pictograms).

Tag import

Tags from external systems are automatically mapped to discover.swiss tags by our connectors. This mapping is maintained within the platform and is continuously extended and improved to reflect real-world use cases.

If a new tag was introduced in an external system, or if a tag mapping is missing or incorrect, please inform discover.swiss so the mapping can be updated.

Create tags

Common tags are created by discover.swiss or on request by partners.

Campaign tags can be created directly by partners in the Partner Portal and are scoped to the owning partner.

  • Only the owner of a datasource can change or delete tags automatically assigned by a connector
  • All partners can use common tags and their own campaign tags to manually assign them to objects
